Now that summer is officially here, the weather is warming up and house parties start moving outdoors. Below are a couple great tips on how to throw a wonderful 4th of July BBQ!
Being that the hot summer temperatures are very dehydrating, having abundant beverages is a good place to start. Whip up some refreshing lemonades and don’t be afraid to get creative with some herbs and colorful fruits. Fresh squeezed juices and iced teas are also healthy and tasty options worth considering. And don’t forget to have a lot of good old water!
For the adults, having hand-crafted cocktails and wine are also fabulous ideas. Just as for the lemonade, use some fresh fruits and herbs and make some cocktails that are both easy and fancy. As for the wine, we recommend serving some rosé or white wine as reds can be too heavy in the summer heat. If you do choose red wine, stick to some lighter grapes such as Pinot Noir and be sure that the bottle is slightly chilled.
Next comes the food, arguably the most important aspect of a BBQ. Grilling is a practical and fun way to cook, bringing people together outdoors. Classic BBQ meals include: burgers, hot dogs, steaks, chicken wings, ribs and they’re best served with grilled summer veggies like corn, okra, asparagus, yellow squash, zucchinis, eggplant, and bell peppers.
For dessert, think about things that are red, white and blue and make something simple, yet cute. For example, you can make some strawberry, banana, blueberry kabobs, bake a cake with vanilla frosting and decorate it with berries in the shape of the American flag, or just set up some bowls with berries, watermelon and some crème fraiche, yum!
When you’ve planned the food and drinks, you should begin to think about the 4th of July themed décor. Obviously, American flags are the go-to, ensuring the party has tons of national pride! Now a days, nearly everything comes with the American flag motif: disposable plates, cups and napkins, banners, and countless other brilliant decorations. Stars and stripes are also very appropriate and look great on anything! Be sure to dress in patriotic colors or anything that has to do with the American flag’s stars and stripes.
Last but not least, make sure that you have some lively music that tailors to all ages, some fun games such as cornhole or football, and lost of sunscreen and bug spray to go around for all of your guests!
