General Overview

Brickell is Miami and South Florida’s main financial district, where countless residential and commercial skyscrapers make up the community. It has a total area of 1.19 square miles and a population of 31,000, making it Miami’s densest neighborhood.

It is often dubbed Miami’s Wall Street, with residents working in the trade and financial industries. Brickell is also slowly becoming one of the neighborhoods of choice for young professionals.

Location

Brickell is an urban neighborhood located just south of the Miami CBD and south of the Miami River. It is near Little Havana, Biscayne Bay, Virginia Key, and Key Biscayne.

The neighborhood has three sub-districts: West Brickell, South Brickell, and Brickell. Brickell is the financial district, where banks, high-rises, and offices are headquartered. West Brickell is the residential area of Brickell that features low- to mid-rise apartment complexes. South Brickell is where the single-family homes and high-rise condos are located.

Transportation

Brickell is a pedestrian-friendly community. Locals get around using the Miami Metrorail, with stops at Brickell Station and five other stations served by the Metromover’s Brickell Loop. The Metromover train system is also a free, reliable mode of public transport in Brickell, running three lines throughout the downtown. More importantly, Metrorail and Metromover are connected.

There are several parks in Brickell, including Simpson Park Hammock, Alice Wainwright Park, Southside Park, Allen Morris Brickell Park, Brickell Park, Miami Circle, and Brickell Key Park.

Although highly urbanized, historical landmarks still remain in some parts of Brickell, giving us a glimpse of what used to be in the old days. These must-visit sites include Brickell Mausoleum, St. Jude Catholic Church, Miami Circle, and Dr. James M. Jackson Office.
