Shaqs Star Island shack is sold
At last: The Miami Beach waterfront estate of Shaquille O'Neal -- listed in '05 at $32 million, then in '06 at $35 million, and most recently at $22.5 million -- has sold. Deal closed on Wednesday, real estate insiders say. Tight-lipped sources won't discuss -- confidentiality agreement -- but word is the NBA star did not get his asking price for the Star Island mansion, which has seven bedrooms plus a two-bedroom guest house.
The sale price is expected to appear any day -- even as early as today -- on the Multiple Listing Service. No word yet on who bought the 2.45-acre property. It closed in a corporate name.
New York Yankee Alex ''A-Rod'' Rodriguez signed a contract to buy the home in '07, when he was still married to Cynthia, but changed his mind. Former Miami Heat center Rony Seikaly owned the spread in the early 1990s.
O'Neal purchased the residence for $18.8 million in August '04, shortly after his trade from the L.A. Lakers to the Heat. He and wife Shaunie split up in September '07, but later reconciled. O'Neal was sent to the Phoenix Suns in February '08.
FYI, house has an indoor racquetball court, outdoor tennis court, pool, dock, six-car garage -- and a 2008 tax bill of $547,326.49.
Coldwell Banker's Jill Eber and Jill Hertzberg had the listing. They still have 16 photos posted at thejills.com.
